Godspeed Finish New LP, Tour Europe

Catherine Lewis reports:
Well, it looks like Canada's doom-rock orchestra has another album on the way. According to several reports, Godspeed You Black Emperor! have just finished recording a brand new full-length at Steve Albini's highly regarded Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago. Albini has given fuller sounds to several post-rockers in recent days-- most notably Mogwai on their incredible return to form, the My Father, My King EP-- so it wouldn't be a long-shot to expect he'll do the same with Godspeed. However, it remains to be seen whether, in light of recent events, the band will continue down their very-well-worn path of Anti-American sentiments and apocalypic imagery.

No title or release date has been announced for the new album, but it's expected to see the light of day sometime around the spring of 2002. In the meantime, you can always pick up the new album by the Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band's Born into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward, which was released through Constellation Records in October and features several of Godspeed's founding members. And let's not forget the also-GYBE-related Set Fire to Flames' Sings Reign Rebuilder, which just came out on Alien8.

Finally, for those of you that just so happen to be in Europe, Godspeed have announced dates for an extensive tour of that place you live. The three-month, 48-date tour kicks off in Paris, finishes in Amsterdam, and hits a whole bunch of cities we've barely heard of and probably wouldn't be able to find without a really good tour guide.
