Shellac Touring Eastern U.S. in October
Catherine Lewis reports:
Shellac will be taking their twin Travis Bean act on the road this
October (well, triple Travis Bean act, if you believe the gossip that
Todd Trainer plays a Travis Bean drumkit), starting in Maine and
traveling to Missouri before returning to Illi'Noise. In the grand
spirit of Shellac's shows in "non-traditional venues," the Southern
Records website indicates that their show in Athens, GA is at a
whiffle-ball tournament. Which is unforunate because we know badminton
is really their game.
Since the group's formation in the early 90s, they have released
three full-length albums as well as a slew of seven-inches, some
readily available and some-- like the legendary "Futurist"--
available only to certain individuals or attendees of specific shows.
Most recently, they curated the 2002 All Tomorrow's Parties festival
in the UK, which featured bands like the Shipping News (ex-Rodan,
June of '44) and Flour (yes, out of retirement for this show), as
well as bands that Shellac principals Steve Albini and Bob Weston
have recorded, such as Low, Shannon Wright, and the New Year
(ex-Bedhead). For the October tour, Shellac are hooking up with
musical deviants as diverse as Bellini, Danielson Famile, Nina
Nastasia, and the Oxes.
No word yet if any of these cities will feature a morning-after
encore show at a Krispy Kreme donut shop, the way they did in Los
Angeles almost two years ago, but we are eagerly hoping that Albini
will send us an essay on how Krispy Kremes stack up to Tim Horton's
for a future edition of We Are The World. Tour dates:
