D.C.'s Metropolitan Rock East Coast, Fashion Show

Catherine Lewis reports:
Arlington, VA noise-rockers Metropolitan are embarking on an East Coast mini-tour this month in support of their second album, Down for You is Up, released on Crank Automotive Records this spring. Metropolitan have played their Pavement-influenced garage-rock at a smattering of shows around D.C. and Virginia this summer, including a benefit show with the Dismemberment Plan for the National Marrow Donor Program and Locks of Love, which fashions wigs for cancer patients under the age of 18 (note to cancer patients 19 and over: they're wise to your fake ID's).

They will be starting off this weekend in Atlanta at the Fusion 2002 Fashion Show (that's an actual fashion show, not a venue called "Fashion Show"), hitting The Basement in Durham (that's an actual venue called The Basement, not the subterranean level of someone's house), and passing through a few more cities before they end up in New York City.

Now, I don't know which is more significant: the fact that a fashion show is supporting today's independent music scene by booking a band that actually writes and performs its own songs (and in Metropolitan's case, some very fine songs at that) or the fact that this event marks the first time that three straight males will be attending a fashion show of their own choosing (well, besides that annual Victoria's Secret softcore peepshow). In either case, it should be a sight to see.... especially if they have to prop the guys up on three-inch heels so you can see 'em. Tour dates:

09-21 Atlanta, GA - Commune Bar & Restaurant (Fusion 2002 Fashion Show)
09-22 Durham, NC - The Basement
09-25 Baltimore, MD - Talking Head
09-26 Williamsburg, VA - Meridian
09-28 New York, NY - Tiswas at Don Hill's
