50 Foot Wave Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Iota, Arlington, VA Kristin Hersh could be the musical equivalent of Kevin Bacon: linkable to just about anyone by six degrees. She's sung duets with Vic Chesnutt and Michael Stipe, and she's called on Giant Sand's Howe Gelb and Squirrel Nut Zippers accomplice Andrew Bird for instrumental help. One more jump finds half-sister Tanya Donelly from the Throwing Muses days, who played in the Breeders and Belly before going solo herself. But Hersh's latest project, 50 Foot Wave, is all about her trademark wail. At times, the band's engulfing sound comes close to overtaking Hersh's unmistakable shrillness, but when she commands, "Don't touch me/I don't know where you've been!" you'll listen up. 50 Foot Wave plays with the Standard at 8:30 p.m. at the Iota Club & Cafe, 2832 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. $12.
