concert previews Grey Eye Glances
Saturday, November 29, 2003, at Jammin' Java, Vienna, VA

The distance between a band and its fans is usually pretty wide, but Philadelphia's Grey Eye Glances closes up that gap: In a move remarkably free from industry guile, the band formed a business partnership with fans to finance the release of its seventh and latest album, A Little Voodoo. The new disc pools the skills of six different producers—most notably Kevin Killen, known for his work with Elvis Costello and Peter Gabriel—which gives the band's poppy folk-rock a slicker, more polished sound than that of earlier albums. But vocalist Jennifer Nobel's dulcet voice (which you undoubtedly remember from the soundtrack to one of the very special final episodes of Dawson's Creek) still shines above all else. Grey Eye Glances plays at 8 p.m. at Jammin' Java, 227 Maple Ave. East, Vienna. $15. (703) 255-1566. (Catherine P. Lewis)
